The Wonderful World of Technicolor

Series Intro

Winter 2026: A seven-week celebration of Technicolor’s most dazzling achievements, showcasing the films that define cinema’s golden age of colour.  Curated by Adam Cook and Hilary Jay, who will provide enlightening introductions to each screening on Tuesday evenings at 6pm.

There is simply nothing like Technicolor. The pinnacle of colour processing technology in Hollywood, its richly saturated hues gave filmmakers an entirely new expressive palette—one capable of heightening emotion, conjuring fantasy, and etching images into memory with brilliant vibrancy. Technicolor is inseparable from the legacy of some of cinema’s greatest artists—Vincente Minnelli, Douglas Sirk, and Powell & Pressburger, among others—whose mastery of colour defined how we remember their work today. Across this series, we explore the dazzling versatility of the medium: from enchanting animation, to the overflowing passions of melodrama, the stylish intensity of psychodrama, the exuberance of musical comedy, and the majestic opulence of the historical epic. The Screening Room is proud to present seven of these landmark films, each a celebration of Technicolor’s power to bring worlds, emotions, and visions to vivid life.
