Things to Come (1936)

Part of the series Sci-Fi July, hosted by The Cinema Society of Kingston. The film will be introduced by programmer Dan Simpson. In 1936, author H.G. Wells, producer Alexander Korda, and director William Cameron Menzies teamed up to envision what the remainder of the 20th century had to offer. Their prognosis was grim. Things to Come imagines decades of global warfare, violent tyrants, and a plague, but also, eventually, a utopian world dedicated to peace. At a time when science-fiction cinema skewed towards the fantastical and the spectacular, Things to Come is a genuine attempt to speculate on what the future holds. Some things it got right. Others, quite wrong. But at all times, the film demonstrates wild ambition and imagination.DramaPT1H40MRated G2025-07-27
