Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) + Discussion

Join the Cinema Society of Kingston for a Sunday matinee, followed by a book-club-style discussion. A drug-fueled road trip spirals into surreal chaos as Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson and his eccentric lawyer chase the American Dream through the neon-lit haze of 1970s Las Vegas. Part of the series Screen Bound, hosted by The Cinema Society of Kingston: Read the book, watch the movie—or just watch the movie! Each film in the series is a literary adaptation, followed by an (optional) book-club-style discussion in the cinema. The discussion for this screening will be hosted by Kingston-based writer and Society programmer Stephen Lee Naish. "It’s certainly distinctive, looking at times like Richard Lester put through a postmodernist blender." – Chicago Reader "Visually incredible and blessed with great performances from Depp and Del Toro, this is destined for cult classic status." – Empire Magazine About the Host: Stephen Lee Naish (he/him) is a British/Canadian writer and author of numerous books on film, politics, and pop culture.
